Phenotype Probable structural gene for paramyosin. Reference allele e73 : limp paralysed phenotype larvae move slightly better Egl; disorganized muscle structure; suppressed by sup-3; e73/+ slightly slow. ES3 ME0. NA > 5 (e1214amber (more severe phenotype than e73 not suppressed by sup-3) e1402ts (moves well at 15x paralysed at 25x) etc.).

[C.elegansII] e73 : limp paralysed phenotype, larvae move slightly better; Egl; disorganized muscle structure; suppressed by sup-3; e73/+ slightly slow. ES3 ME0. OA>10: e1214amb (more severe phenotype than e73, not suppressed by sup-3), e1402ts (moves well at 15C, paralysed at 25C), ut37 (lethal embryonic arrest at 4-fold stage), r404, r408, m81, s40, su228 etc. Cloned: encodes 886 aa paramyosin. Structured_description Provisional_description The unc-15 gene encodes a paramyosin ortholog; UNC-15 protein physically interacts with MHC A, one isoform of myosin heavy chain (MHC) in striated muscle; UNC-15 accumulation is decreased in the absence of UNC-54 (myosin B), implying that degradation of UNC-15 is inhibited by its binding myosin B; conversely, myosin B (but not MYO-3/myosin A) fails to accumulate in unc-15 mutants. Chimeric myosin constructs show that a 322-residue region of MYO-3 (in the MHC A rod) suppresses structural and motility defects associated with the unc-15(e73) allele, whereas constructs lacking this region either have no effect on the unc-15(e73) phenotype or actually enhance it dominantly.
Other sequences along the length of the rod may also participate in the isoform-specific interaction between MHC A and UNC-15.
