Remark May be a pseudogene. Homology to other DNA topoisomerase II proteins extends across predicted intron splice sites and stop codons at introns 2 and 4. The sequence was checked for frameshifts and was found to look ok.
K08E5.1 possesses greater homology to DNA topoisomerase II proteins than R05D3.1 which has also been found to be similar to DNA topoisomerase II proteins.
Pieces of this protein are duplicated both before and after (e.g. BLASTX match at 1900-2100, ORF at 10248-10428)
There is a good match to a cDNA here but not exact. Therefore this cDNA may actually come from the real DNA topoisomerase, adding more weight to the fact that this gene is probably a psuedogene
[030612 ar2] Further investigation following user query confirms that this is likely a pseudogene. Homology to several other topoisomerases suggests that the resultant protein is missing 31 aa from the start of exon 6
[cont] . . These amino acids are coded by the DNA 5' to the start of the exon. This suggests that the discontinuity between exons 5 and 6 is caused by a frame shift and the splicing that seemingly works fine is fortuotous
