Gene_info Structured_description Provisional_description R13G10.4 encodes a homolog of human ACDP1-ACDP4 and a paralog of C01H6.6, C33D12.2, C52D10.12, M02F4.3, and R04E5.2; both R13G10.4 and ACDP1-ACDP4 belong to a family of proteins (defined by NCBI as KOG2118) that are predicted to be membrane-spanning and that share a motif (the 'ACD domain') with proteins from bacteria, yeast, plants, and metazoa; murine Acdp1 is a plasma membrane protein bacterial proteins containing the ACD domain include CorC from Salmonella typhimurium, which is involved in magnesium and cobalt efflux; R13G10.4 has no obvious function in RNAi assays. ACDP proteins have been proposed to structurally resemble cyclin, and human ACDP proteins have been claimed to be predominantly nuclear.
However, the conserved ACD domain has been predicted to have transmembrane sequences, at least one ACD homolog (Mam3p in S. cerevisiae) is localized to the vacuolar membrane, and recent work has shown that murine Acdp1 in hippocampal neurons is primarily located in the plasma membrane.
