F39B2.2 Details | |
Description | uev-1 encodes a ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme (UBC or E2) variant that contains the characteristic UBC motif, but lacks the critical active-site cysteine residue necessary for catalytic activity; as loss of UEV-1 function via RNA-mediated interference (RNAi) does not result in any abnormalities, the precise role of UEV-1 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known; UEV-1 does, however, interact with a number of proteins, such as UBC-13, that are likely involved in the response to DNA damage; thus, UEV-1 may play a role in ubiquitination and protein turnover in conjunction with DNA repair or the DNA damage checkpoint pathway. |
