dog-1 encodes a predicted DEAH helicase, orthologous to the human BRCA1-binding protein BACH1 (OMIM:605882, mutated in early-onset breast cancer); DOG-1 is required for maintenance of polyguanine tracts of germline and somatic DNA, and is proposed to resolve the secondary structure that can occur in guanine-rich DNA during lagging-strand DNA synthesis. |
