lbp-5 encodes a predicted intracellular fatty acid binding protein (iFABP) that is most similar to the vertebrate muscle and heart FABPs; by homology, LBP-5 is predicted to function as an intracellular transporter for small hydrophobic molecules such as lipids and steroid hormones; loss of lbp-5 activity via large-scale RNAi screens indicates that, in C. elegans, LBP-5 is required for movement. |
