Description of "Y66A7A.6" |
gly-8 encodes a predicted transmembrane polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyl transferase (ppGaNTase) similar to the essential Drosophila ppGaNTase encoded by Pgant35A; by homology, GLY-8 is predicted to function as a Golgi enzyme that catalyzes transfer of N-acetylgalactosamine to serine and threonine-containing acceptor peptides, thus initiating mucin-type O-glycosylation; as loss of gly-8 activity via large-scale RNAi screens does not result in any obvious abnormalities, the precise role of GLY-8 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known. |
