Description of "T07D4.3"  rha-1 encodes an ATP-dependent DEAD/H box RNA helicase orthologous to human RNA helicase A and Drosophila Maleless, an essential component of the dosage compensation machinery required for increased X-linked transcription in males; by homology, RHA-1 is predicted to function in regulation of transcription, translation, RNA processing, and/or RNA replication; in C. elegans, RHA-1 is required for germ cell proliferation, normal germ cell nuclear morphology, RNA-mediated interference (RNAi) of germline-expressed genes, and silencing of germline-expressed transgenes; RHA-1 is reported to localize to the nucleus and the cytoplasm.
