Description of "Y55B1AR.1" |
lec-6 encodes a 'proto' type galectin (beta-galactosyl-binding lectin) containing a single carbohydrate recognition domain; by homology, LEC-6 may play roles in cell adhesion and aggregation, proliferation, or programmed cell death, but as loss of lec-6 activity via large-scale RNAi screens does not result in obvious abnormalities, the precise role of LEC-6 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known; in vitro, LEC-6 can interact with several types of blood group precursor oligosaccharides and gangliosides. |
