F58A4.3 (hcp-3) |
Description of "F58A4.3" |
The hcp-3 gene encodes a centromere protein (CENP)-A homolog required for kinetochore function; inactivation of hcp-3 in one-cell embryos by RNAi causes a complete loss of kinetochores, with total failure of chromosomes to segregate properly during mitosis, to recruit components to the kinetochore other than HCP-3, or to assemble a stable mitotic spindle; in addition, HCP-4 fails to localize properly to the kinetochore in hcp-3(RNAi) embryos. |

Remark |
Phenotype comment -- Confirmed with independent dsRNA (K.O., unpublished observations; similar phenotype). Phenotype could potentially be due to cross-RNAi inhibition of other CENP-A like gene (F54C8.2) (see BLASTN results). We note, however, that the phenotypes associated with these two genes are somewhat different, suggesting that the phenotype noted here may truly reflect a requirement for F58A4.3 function. |
